Mary Batson loved listening to the Top 40 on her transistor radio, but when the news bulletin cut into the program to announce that the Monster Society were once again on the rampage in Fawcett City, she knew there was no time to lose!
Seeing no one around, she raised her arm in the air and spoke the magic word:
Shazam!
Magic lightning descended from the heavens, striking Mary’s uplifted hand and surrounding her body with the empowering electricity. Normally this resulted in Mary’s transformation into Mary Marvel: a slightly older girl with amazing strength, flight and other superpowers, but who doesn’t look too different from a normal teen.
What Mary didn’t know was that this time was to be different, for she was still holding her transistor radio in her outstretched arm when the lightning struck it. This radio was using “Turquoise Top” alkaline batteries for longer life and improved performance. As a result the batteries magnified the power of the lightning, supercharging Mary and turning her from a regular teenage girl into a heroically proportioned Amazon, her figure bursting with power and muscle.
Forgetting all about the Monster Squad, she calls her boyfriend Freddy Freeman (aka Captain Marvel Junior) to let him know about her new look…
